Fernando de Castro made significant contributions in different aspects of Neurohistology:

-the histogenesis of neuroglia;

-the innervation of pancreas;

-degeneration and regeneration of the nervous system, transplantion and nervous tissue culture;

-description of new histological procedures and variations on pre-existing ones;

-the meaning and functional significance of oligodendroglial and Schwann cells;

-general pathology and neuropathology;
